The New York City Subway, a rapid transit system owned by the City of New York and leased to the New York City Transit Authority, operates under the auspices of the state-run Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Commencing operations on October 27, 1904, it stands as one of the world's oldest, busiest, and most extensive public transit systems. With 472 operational stations (or 424 when stations connected by transfers are counted as single stations), the New York City Subway spans across the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx.
The 14th Street/Sixth Avenue subway station complex in the Chelsea district of Manhattan, New York City, on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line, the BMT Canarsie Line, and the IND Sixth Avenue Line. It is located on 14th Street between Sixth Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) and Seventh Avenue.
