Ameena:
Afghanistan, 2010. A young Afghan girl rummages through U.S. Army trash at a landfill outside 'Forward Operating Base' Lightning for food and burnable items that will keep her warm. Here, $1.00 will keep a child in rice and bread for a week. Ameena doesn't know how old she is; she lives with her mother in the town of Gardez, in the Paktia Province, 7-miles away. She walks to the dump daily, scavenging for anything her mother can use to keep them warm. Carrying her bag of trash home, she will run the gauntlet, defending it aggressively from other children.
