Dangerous Jobs—Lineman:
Numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics put electrical line workers among the top ten most dangerous jobs in the United States. The position of a lineman is fraught with danger. Utility companies are targeting a zero-fatality rate—but still, roughly 3-million nonfatal incidents are reported annually. Linemen risk electric shocks, falls, burns, and other injuries while on the job—every day, a multitude of possibilities could quickly turn fatal. It's difficult for many outside the industry to comprehend the magnitude of the hazards they face—and the measures involved in keeping themselves and those around them safe. I was fortunate recently to spend a day with a repair team working in Oconeechee, North Carolina; here are a few of those images.
