David Pace's Grocery is one of the few generational family businesses remaining around Clayton, North Carolina. Established on January 1, 1950, this quaint little mom 'n pop store has retained its rustic and down-home nuances that make the place unique; that feeling of nostalgia, like stepping back to a simpler time—when small rural groceries provided everything for the community! The store's business objectives have changed very little since its humble beginnings. They have a wide selection of goods ranging from household products, tools, canned goods, snacks, and fuel (Propane, kerosene, and gasoline). Like many small businesses in the area, David Pace finds it challenging to compete with big commerce—Walmart, Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and Publix. Combined with a pandemic—is it any wonder these small stores are disappearing from the landscape.
