Mayan Indian:
A candid image of an elderly woman, a descendant of the Mayan people, selling hand-stitched embroidered towels at Chichén Itzá. This complex of Mayan ruins, located on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, is dominated by the massive step pyramid known as El Castillo or the Temple of Kukulcan. Chichén Itzá thrived from around 600 A.D. to the 1200s, and today, visitors can see graphic stone carvings at structures like the ball court, Temple of the Warriors, and the Wall of the Skulls. Nightly sound-and-light shows highlight the buildings' sophisticated geometry.
