Peace Through Unity:
This image represents a small section of the 'Peace Through Unity' Indian Memorial, which honors the Native Americans who died during the battle of the Little Bighorn on June 25-26, 1876. The Indians who fought during the action were struggling to preserve their way of life, land, and culture. They are now remembered and recognized through this sculpture. On December 10, 1991, the Indian Monument was authorized by Congress and signed into law by former President George Herbert Walker Bush. Previously known as the Custer Battlefield National Monument, the law renamed the site Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument and called for the design, construction, and maintenance of a memorial to recognize the Indians.
