Square Format:
This was a straightforward exercise in capturing the simplicity of digital photography: I shot several images using my iPhone 14 Pro Max, then converted them into monochrome using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Once the images were adjusted to my liking, I cropped them into a square format to highlight the symmetry and focus on the subject matter. Working with the square format always brings an added sense of intention to each shot, forcing you to consider the composition in a way that other aspect ratios don’t. It’s interesting how something as simple as cropping can transform an image, guiding the viewer’s attention more purposefully.
As I worked through this process, a sense of nostalgia hit me—Oh, how I miss my Rollei Rolleiflex 3.5 F TLR Camera. There’s something about shooting on film that feels more deliberate, more connected to the moment. While digital photography offers unmatched convenience and flexibility, there’s an irreplaceable tactile experience with film that will always stick with me.
