Afghan Boy:
I captured this posed image of a young Afghan boy while traveling through the village of Ali Shir in the Tere Zayi district in Khost, Afghanistan, 13 miles west of the Pakistan border. Ali Shir is one of the many breeding ground for Taliban sympathizers. Abdulalam Kabeer is the illegitimate product of the Soviet occupation between 1979 - 1989, hence his western features. Life is hard enough in this cold, stark region of Afghanistan—struggling daily to hack out a living! For Abdulalam, due to a Soviet birth line, life is much harder! He is rejected locally by fellow villagers and children alike.
