Washington Monument:
A Landmark obelisk which rises above the National Mall in Washington D.C., honoring America's first president; captured at night as a reflection in the reflecting pool. The monument is located near the west end of the mall, granting spectacular views of the area, including the Lincoln Memorial, The White House, and United States Capitol Building. Memorializing the first President, George Washington, the monument has been witness to the history that formed our nation. Shaped like an Egyptian obelisk, the National Monument stands as the tallest structure in Washington, D.C., at 555' 5/8" high; made of marble, granite, and bluestone gneiss, it took 36 years to complete. From the top viewers enjoy 30 to 40 miles visibility in clear weather. When it was completed in 1884, it was the tallest building in the world.
